This is the second chapter in the Cat Duke series. If The Duke of Amber Lights was about a solitary keeper walking through fog, this one is about the moment he stops walking — because someone is standing in the snow, waiting.
I wanted the music to feel like an invitation you're almost too nervous to extend. The 3/4 waltz rhythm carries that push-and-pull: composure on the outside, heart racing underneath. The steampunk Victorian setting gave me a stage where formality and emotion could coexist — grand halls, chandeliers, gears ticking — all awakened by a single decision to reach out a hand.
