What if elegance could rot?
The Cat Duke series is built on steampunk warmth — fog, amber light, quiet duty. But I wanted to see what happens when you take the same waltz rhythm and pour something darker into it. Halloween was the excuse. Gothic was the language.
The idea wasn't horror. It was beauty that makes you slightly uncomfortable — a ballroom that's too grand, smiles that last too long, chandeliers that flicker without wind. The kind of party where everything is perfect, and that's exactly what's wrong.

Each verse belongs to a different character, and none of them are doing well. That was intentional.
The children are the ones who start the party. They whisper to ghosts like it's a game — because for them, it is. They don't know the rules yet.
The witch is the oldest presence. She's not evil; she's just been stirring the same cauldron for too long. Her tune is "both sweet and grim" — and she knows it.
The porcelain doll is the one that gets me every time. A broken face, a hundred years of dancing alone. Her verse is the quietest, and somehow the loudest.
And in the bridge, the jester and the ghost say the quiet part out loud: "We dance for love, we sing for sin, until the clock strikes twelve again." They know this is a loop. They don't mind.

The final chorus — vanishing act
The ending was the part I wrote first. "We vanish laughing, one by one, until next year's moon becomes the sun." That line decided everything else. The whole song is a countdown to disappearing, and the characters know it from the start. They're not trying to escape — they're trying to enjoy what's left.
That's the real mood of this piece. Not fear, not sadness. Just the particular joy of something that can't last — and choosing to dance anyway.
最終副歌——消失的藝術
結尾是我最先寫的部分。「我們笑著,一個接著一個消失,直至明年的月亮化作太陽。」這句話決定了整首歌的走向。整首歌是一場倒數,而角色們從頭就知道。他們不是想逃——是想把剩下的時間儘情用完。最後幽靈與娃娃們陸續消失或陷入沉睡,期待明天的狂歡。
這才是這支作品真正的情緒。不是恐懼,不是悲傷。是一種「知道留不住,但還是選擇跳舞」的特殊快樂。
